Arsedestroyer - "MCD" 1995 & "Teenass Revolt" LP 2001 (320)

Is there any other band in Sweden that has received so many rumors? True or false? Who cares? In any case, here is an exhaustive interview with Sweden's absolute best mangler !!!!

Tell us about the gig in Umeå at Punkfesten II?

- Remember that I was baked & sat on the swell on MCDonkiz (according to RUMOR we also hailed as satan) at the same time as Hugget (played guitar with us then) had some kind of demo outside. Voff voff any fucken way, some buns did not dig this & gay bashed us a little while shouting "oui oui oui you thexy basterds". No big deal.

Why do you have no song titles on your debut album. How do you differentiate between the songs yourself?

- Well, it's like this, huh. We call them fun things like "Laila's pussy" or "Hästtryne". Some even have an anchor of reality such as "Sorry Linus" which Linus wrote when he was VERY ANGRY (!) At me.

Why have you always given such short answers in other interviews? (Prove the opposite now!)

- Will be going to work soon. Driving a truck to the warehouse. Looks like it's going to be a great day.

You're over 30 now, aren't you? How does it feel and how have you felt about peers' prejudices or other punks. How do you think the punk scene has developed in the years you have been involved?

- How do I feel? What do you think? Are totally fucking wack?

Why make songs that are longer than 1 minute?

- You're gay. You want to break. You want to suck ponga for promotion. You want to toss the lettuce for distribution.

Are there any Swedish bands you like?

- Neeeeej not directly. Right now I listen quite a lot to Kool Keith ("sex style" Instrumental), Dr. Dooom, Dr. Octagon, Cenobites (Kool K / GodFather Don collaboration) etc. Bought "Spankmaster" yesterday. Have not had time to listen to it yet. Necro! A little dub. Hardly any gate at all. Mucho old hc / punk. A little pop. All right!

Sektion B - "Power Is Nothing Without Control" CDR 2001 & "Hidden Tracks [隠蔽音源集]" CD 2007 (320)

Sektion B is your power electronics collective. What is the story behind Sektion B and what is the goal of this project? Also, tell me something about the lyrics and the recording process.

On January 1st 2001 three members: Jedi (sound and technic), SY214-B (vocals), L. White (vocals and management) founded Sektion B. Since many years A.H. - a very talented musician, has helped us on our live performances all over the world. Sektion B have no further goal than to make music and to present it to those interested. The lyrics, music and live gigs manifest in our three minds! Then we work together on all the details! All of our releases, live concerts and tracks are conceited through a long way of hardest group work. The themes around politics, violence, crime and sex are the most important things in our life. So it is clear and easy for us that our music reflects those themes.

Now legendary album, Power is Nothing Without Control got two reissues as CDr and as Vinyl. Why hasn’t it been released in CD format?

Thanks for your very positive opinion about this album! It was released in 2001 as first release of my fresh founded label L.White Records as LW001 as CDr in a limitation of 100 handnumbered pieces! Two years later Steinklang Records from Austria asked for a re-releasing as LP and also as limited CDr! We were asked many times for re-releasing this again! But we think that 3 versions are much more than enough!

What are the reactions for Sektion B performances and what gear is used for Sektion B?

Most of the Sektion B performances had good reactions from the audience und sometimes also good interactions (burning funny flags etc.)! In the early live performances we use a lot of analogue and digital equipment on stage! Later – when we got offers to play outside of Germany we decide to use only a laptop and some small effect machines! It was simply too difficult to travel by plane with all the old equipment! We know that is not really popular in the scene – but it works well!

When can we expect new Sektion B?

This is a very hard question! Our last work / 'hidden tracks' CD was released especially for our gig in Tokyo (Japan) October 2007! And this was only a collection of tracks which were released on different compilations! The last real release was our part of the "Free Speech" series a year before! Throughout the years we work on new tracks which could fit on a new album or whatever! When Sektion B played after nearly 3 years delay live here in Germany in September 2012 we played 3 complete new tracks! I hope that we can complete them to a fulltime release in the near future!

"U.S. Industrial/Experimental/Electronic/Noise tape label run by Al Margolis of New York, now defunct.
S.O.P.'s cassette mail order catalogue featured hundreds of titles from the early 1980s through the 1990s, quickly earning Al the title of 'Cassette Godfather'."

Prong - 1986 Demo

"Prong has been described as groove metal, industrial metal, thrash metal and crossover thrash, citing Killing Joke and Chrome as influences. They in turn have influenced many notable musicians such as Korn's Jonathan Davis, Demon Hunter's Ryan Clark and Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor, as well as bands such as Pantera and White Zombie. The band was founded in 1986 by singer/guitarist Tommy Victor (then a sound engineer for the New York City music club CBGB) and bassist Mike Kirkland (doorman at CBGB), who recruited ex-Swans drummer Ted Parsons shortly after. Prong independently released an EP, Primitive Origins, and a studio album, Force Fed, in the late 1980s, which were noted for their very raw sound.

Prong signed with Epic Records in 1989. Their major label debut album, Beg to Differ, was released in 1990. In the following year, Kirkland left the band and was replaced by bassist Troy Gregory. Prong issued their fourth release, Prove You Wrong, which saw the band experiment with programming and electronic samples while still retaining an aggressive yet melodic sensibility.

By 1994, Troy Gregory was out of the band and was replaced by Paul Raven and John Bechdel, both from Killing Joke and Murder, Inc. The new line-up released Cleansing (Prong's fifth major release). With a slight industrial metal influence, Cleansing contained songs that are still considered Prong classics and is Prong's most successful release to date. The videos for these two songs became staples of MTV's Headbangers Ball. The band toured America with Sepultura and Pantera as an opener for their respective Chaos A.D. and Far Beyond Driven tours. They also undertook a headlining European tour with Life of Agony and The Obsessed as their support.

Prong's sixth album Rude Awakening was released in 1996. It entered the charts at No. 107 and sold 10,000 units in the United States in its first week. Despite the good sales, Epic Records released the band from their contract three weeks after the album's release. Shortly thereafter, Raven left prior to a tour supporting Type O Negative and was replaced by Rob "Blasko" Nicholson. Mike Riggs later joined on guitar so Victor could focus more on vocals. This line-up later disbanded, with Victor joining Danzig as their guitar player, and Ted Parsons joining Godflesh. Parsons also played with Jesu and toured with Paul Raven in Killing Joke."

Psychotic Maniacs - "A Tribe Of Melbourne" EP 1987

"This EP was actually recorded in August 1984 but it hadn't gotten mixed, mastered, and released until at least April 1987. Truly a shame because this album sounded rather ahead of it's time for having been recorded in 1984: most bands hadn't played this fast until the later 80's. This is both the first and last album by Psychotic Maniacs, who were a very short-lived Australian hardcore band who (in my opinion) do not get the attention they deserve. Matter of fact, Australian hardcore as a whole doesn't get the attention it deserves. Do you see Australia in the categories section? The back cover of this record says what I think was the lifespan of the band, 'Psychotic Maniacs, December 1983-October 1984'. Less than a year old!

Some people compare this band to Depression which I don't think is too far off, but it sounds more like the self-titled LP Depression did, not the later metal shit. Also, I like this singer more than Depression's singer. Other than that, someone also compared them to Conflict which I don't think is accurate at all. To me the vocals sound a lot like the singer from Chaos UK.

Liz from the band G.A.S.H. (Girls Against Sexual Hype) also plays bass on this record. The rest of the line-up includes Ronnie - vocals, Obby - guitar, and Scotty - drums. KFTH had this to say about them:

'The story goes, Depression were recording their self titled LP in 1985. They finished recording a lot earlier than expected, so rather than let the recording time go to waste, Smeer of Depression called the Maniacs up at 2am and told them to get down to the studio. The Maniacs, who at the time were living at the infamous "Hardcore House" with Depression and Gash came down to the studio and kicked down six songs from their old live set.'

I don't think this is true, but I don't know. Like I mentioned before, the album cover says they split in 1984, and Depression wasn't recording that album until 1985. So either KFTH is wrong or the cover must be. Regardless, it sucks that this band didn't last longer or record more. Another thing KFTH kinda messed up on was saying how this EP was referred to by some as 'Tribes Of Melbourne' when thats actually just the name of the song, it actually says 'A Tribe Of Melbourne' on the label of the vinyl. A small mistake. Technically, I would label this as a self-titled EP since it only has the bands name on the album cover, but that probably hasn't been done yet because it would just make this band even harder to find.

'I Need The Weed' has got to be THEE best hardcore weed song I've ever heard! From what I understand, it's a song about wanting to smoke weed but not having the funds. Pretty awesome lyrics like 'I want to smoke, I want to smoke, I want to smoke today / Smoke smoke smoke smoke smoke my life away'. Being a pothead, I can't help but relate to it. My favorite part is where he says something like 'I need the weed! It's why Jesus sent me here!'. However, 'Wanna Die' is my favorite song on this album, which is weird beause I didn't think too highly of it when I first heard it, but it grows on you."  --7 Inch Punk (R.I.P.)

Gore Beyond Necrography '92-'05

&

Relapse - Let's start with a brief G.B.N. presentation for everyone who doesn't know your band yet.

GBN - Kiyonob, Hironori and I decided to start a grindnoisecore band in 1989. We named the band GORE BEYOND NECROPSY and started playing our own sick and filthy grindcore songs just like early CARCASS with Mamoru as vocalist. We had used a drum-machine since our original drummer had left in '92. At first, we'd enjoyed to play with it but after a while we'd got bored with it 'coz it sounded really weak. In sept. '96 finally Hayato joined G.B.N. as a human grinding drum-machine. We started as just another CARCASS clone shit but now we play our own analdrillingrindharshitcore!

The line up is: Mamoru (vocals), Kiyonob (guitar), Hironori (noise), Hayato (drums), Akinob (bass)

We'd released the following shit so far: Reh-demo '91, Promo Live Tape '91, "I Recommend You...Amputation!" Demo'92, "This Is An EP You Want" 7" '93, Live tape '94, Split EP with GUT '94, MERZBOW + G.B.N. collaboration EP "Rectal Grinder" '95, Split EP with SENSELESS APOCALYPSE '96, "Faecal Noise Holocaust" 7" EP '96, Split EP with DISGORGE '97, MERZBOW + G.B.N. collaboration LP/CD "Rectal Anarchy" '97.

Relapse - The "Faecal Noise Holocaust" EP is one of the most extreme releases I've ever checked out. Are you pleased with it? How has it sold? Anything you would like to change on it?

GBN - I'm very glad to hear you like it! Yeah, I like it, too!! I don't know exacly how many copies are sold, sorry! But I heard Honza of ICY ILLUSIONS Recs did more 300 copies as 2nd press, so 800 copies were pressed, I guess. The soundquality of guitars and drums are really cheap, so if we could make guitars and drums much lower, it would be far better!!

Relapse - When did you decide to mix electronic noise with goregrind? What are the grind and the noise bands that have mainly influenced G.B.N.?

GBN - In '91 Kiyonob had started making noise while playing the guitar by using lots of effects and peddals and later, Hironori followed to do it. After a while, Kiyonob got bored to make noise but Hironori wanted to only make noise. Now they do what they want. Well, we've got great influence from old NAPALM DEATH, old CARCASS, SORE THROAT, FEAR OF GOD, MERZBOW, HIJOKAIDAN, MASONNA, CACOFONIA, NEFARIOUS, GUT, REGURGITATE, ARSEDESTROYER, S.O.B., CONFUSION(first flexi), old AGATHOCLES, SPK, CONTROLLED BLEEDING, LUSTMORD and lots more. Also we are heavily influenced by HC, punk, rock'n'roll, raw+filthy death metal music.

Relapse - Is there any particular meaning under the band's name or you chose it just'coz it sounds sick?

GBN - Yeah, you're right! We use it means nothing but just sounds sick and shitty!! So, please, don't think G.B.N. as "brutal fuckin' grindin' death metal"!!

Relapse - You have recently released a CD in collaboration with MERZBOW through RELEASE recs. Could you tell me how and when is born your collaboration with Masami Akita? Will you release other stuff with him?

GBN - In september '94, we had played live with VIOLENT ONSEN GEISHA, At that time Masami of MERZBOW had played the drums for V.O. We said we really love MERZBOW and he had interest to do something with G.B.N., so MERZBOW + G.B.N. was born. We did some gigs and Mr. Iijima of MANGROVE label came to see our live show and planned to release the collaboration EP, so we did "Rectal Grinder" 7" in '95. Bill of RELEASE had also an interest in our collaboration stuff, we went to Masami's ZSF PRODUCT studio and recorded some basic trax for it in summer'96. The first song on CD (CD bonus track) is based on our live recorded trax at La Lama, Shibuya, Tokyo, late'95.

The line up of that live show was: Sinyo (GRUDGE) - vocals, Hironori - vocals, Bara (MERZBOW) - vocals Kosakai (INCAPACITANTS) - vocals, Masami - noise, Kiyonob - guitar, Akinob - bass. Mamoru couldn't take part in the project due to his job.

Relapse - The 18th track of "Faecal..." is titled "viva anarcho", I suppose you are an anarchist, or not? What is your idea of anarchy? What are the anarchists who have influenced yourself?

GBN -When I was a young boy, I had been into anarchistic thoughts by CRASS, CONFLICT etc...but getting older, I knew it's very and difficult to realize it and it's a fantasy to me. But I'm still in sympathy with anarchism. I think if all greedy bastards/ bullshit politicians/ fucked up systems are destroyed, our lives would be much better, so I made this song.

Relapse - How is life in Japan? I don't know so much about your country, can you make a short description of life in the rising sun country?

GBN - Totally fucked up!! It takes a lot of money to live here in japan. Everything is so expensive!!!! Shit!!

Relapse - How is possible that japan has a huge number of excellent grind/noise/HC bands? Maybe there's something in the air!! What are, in your opinion, the best new acts?

GBN - Yes, our brain are totally intoxicated by polluted dioxin air, so we can make good music! Ha Ha Ha....I think there are lots of good grind/HC/noise bands in all over the world. I don't know why you think such a shit! Well, my fave recent bands are GRUDGE (godz!!), D.I.E., NIKUDOREI (MEATSLAVE), IRF, T.R.U.T.H., 324, MORE NOISE FOR LIFE, MASSGENOCIDE and so on.

Relapse - Have you got any side project?

GBN -Hironori, Kiyonob and I do a side project harshitnoisecore band called REPULTURID MANGEL. I do drums and vocals for R.M. Before G.B.N. I played bass in a HC band called MORBID ORGANS MUTILATION. M.O.M. had released split 7" with AGATHOCLES, "war" live 7"EP and tons of demo tapes. M.O.M. was split up around in '93 but Shinji and I (both original members) plan to reform and record new songs now. Kiyonob and I also plan to do raw punk/garage punk/dirty rock'n'roll band under the influence of GG ALLIN, ANTISEEN, The RIP OFFS, The INFECTIONS, The SPACESHITS, LOLI & the CHONES, MISFITS, RAMONES etc...

Relapse - I know that some years ago you planned to release a full-lengh CD through a german label, but it has never seen the light. How did the shit gone?

GBN - Certainly, we had planned to do a full-lenght CD for M.M.I. Recs in '93-'94. We wanted make really raw, filthy and harsh grindnoisecore stuff but M.M.I.wanted high quality clean sounded one. So, we couldn't do it. It's a good decision for us coz we always wanna be much rawer, filthier, shittier and noiser ever than before! We do what we want and always will!!

Relapse - I read somewhere that gigs in kyoto are really crazy, is it true? Have you ever played there? What has been the best G.B.N. gig? Is it difficult to play your tracks live?

GBN -Yeah, we went to osaka/kyoto in summer '96 with GRUDGE. The gig was not a special one, I guess. But after the show, we went to a bar and I got drunk tooo much and...I can't write it down there! Sorry!!! Well, the most impressive one is the tour in melbourne, australia in late dec. '97 - early jan. '98. It was the first time and only shit for us to play outside japan. We did three times in melbourne with WARSORE, DISGORGE, DRUNKARD, STAND AGAINST, VISCERA, DECOMPOSING SERENITY and HAW. We stayed Paul (WARSORE guitarist)'s house for about 10 days and we really enjoyed a great vacation there. It was the best pleasure I'd ever had!! All bands were really raw and great, all people we met were very kind, nice and friendly!! Hello, all aussie filthy yobbongerd! I never forget all of you!! Well, we don't play lots of noisecore shits on "Faecal Noise Holocaust" EP, so it's not difficult for us as you expected.

Relapse - I suppose you are into gore/trash flix, what are your faves? Do you like the italian ones?

GBN - No, I'm not into it. My faves is "Pink Flamingos" by John Waters. Have you ever seen it??? It really kills!!! Divine & John Waters rules!!!

Relapse - What's the craziest thing you've ever done?

GBN - To do with G.B.N. with Mamoru, Hironori and Kyionob since '91 is! To play with Hayato is make us puke, piss, shit and insane, too!!

Relapse - Akinob, it's time to conclude, thanx for all. Anything you'd like to add?

GBN - Thanx a lot for this cool and long interview, Raffa! I enjoyed this hot shit!! Ultra sorry for the delay 'coz I have lots of shit to do and I'm a lazy pig asshole!! Well, two different shits are ready to release now. "Noise A Go Go!" MCD will be out soon (I hope) by RELAPSE/RELEASE and "Go Filth Go!!" 12" is now planned to be out through our own HARSHIT Recs. Both shits were recorded and mixed by ourselves in '97. Total analdrillingrindharshitcore holocaust!!! The best we'd ever done!! Soon, we'll start recording our new shits for 7" on BLURRED Recs split EP with WARSORE. Hey, readers! If you had an interest, please write to me. (IRC for sure reply). Thanks again, Raffa! Good luck and take! Stay raw, filthy and harsh!! Adios!

Ramleh - "Awake" 8xCD 2012 Repress Of Tape Box 1985 (FLAC, 3+ Gigabytes)

What motivations were behind Ramleh when you started out?

Ramleh began as an attack on the music at the time (1982) which we felt was masquerading as 'experimental' or 'avant-garde' because it was all unoriginal, weak, and obsessed with disco rhythms. It was also an attack on the new morality which we saw springing up (today of course it is much worse). We deliberately investigated and promoted taboo subjects as a means of keeping the doors open for freedom of expression.

Have the reasons determined the nature of your sound, its noisy structure or was the relationship between theoretical project and subsequent realization a looser one?

At the time we thought it was neccessary to match our music and imagery. The music came first and was hard and violent. This was the music we wanted to play. The imagery was deliberate also and happened to fit the music well.

Why did you shelve your project in 1984, and why was it resumed in 1986?

Ramleh was not actually halted until 1984. We stopped for two years. We stopped because we felt that it was needed to do other things in order to approach Ramleh with fresh ideas. Those ideas now seem to be there, so things have been started once more.

What are the many extra-musical influences?

The music of Ramleh is not influenced from outside sources (certainly not intentionally). The subjects dealt with are influenced by things we see, hear, read, and experience. 'Hole In The Heart' is a reaction to the death of Jean Genet, but there is no direct influence as such.

In A Return To Slavery LP there were no words. Is it a normal choice or was it a consequence of the title (because slaves are not allowed to speak)?

One side of A Return To Slavery is my good friend at Libertarian Recordings (also known as Philip Best of Consumer Electronics and Whitehouse). This side is totally instrumental, which was Philip's intention. The other side by Ramleh features four songs which were written with words, and recorded in a special mobile manner to give a feeling of space and motion. The sound and emotions present are more relevant than the actual words. The title refers to a return to the old values. The idea that the world is regressing/not progressing and also refers to medical slavery. Diseases attack us and leave us slaves to research even after death (hence the autopsy photograph on the cover).

The world turns. Backwards. Why return to the scene of past failure. Lack of new ideas. Lack of imagination forces grasphing at straws. But success can be attained through continuation of discontinued partial success. It is not wrong to look to the past. It is only wrong to mis-read it and to recreate disaster. Less is now permissable. More work is needed to retain what is still left. Celebrate and promote that which remains in order to build further towards the heights once attained. Music need not be brutal at all times. Subtlety also has it's place but we must have originality. It is said that in this day and age nothing is original. Fuck that. It is the view of those resigned to failure whose brains are incapable of anything but recycled garbage. Let the world progress one more. Soon.  --Ramleh 1987

C.P.G. - 1983 Demo

"C.P.G. (Coitus Punk Group) is a punk band from Szeged, founded in 1979 by Zoltán Benkő (guitar), Antal Kis (bass), Kocsis Tibor (vocals), Zoltán Nagy (drums). They were soon joined by Ferenc Gallai. Kocsis dropped out of the team over time, and Zoltán Varga, then 15 years old, took his place. In 1981, the band moved to Budapest ( Sashalom ), and Béla Haska became the singer instead of Gallai. In 1983 they were sentenced to prison for their anti-communist, violent lyrics on charges of incitement against the community. They spent 1.5 to 2 years in prison. After their release, Benkő fled to Austria with a fake passport and then to the United States. In 1993, after the change of regime, he returned home to Hungary. A common misconception is that their name stands for 'Gypsy Destroyer' or 'Gypsy Destroyer Guard'. This may be due to the fact that many have confused them with the skinhead 'Mos-Oi' band, which was also banned."
